Tell Me More

Dogsupplies.com has a compelling stat on their homepage (shown in red box below)–

For a first time visitor knowing 45,000 customers bought before her is comforting.  The problem is this statement is a standalone snippet with no context or qualification.  I clicked the text and the homepage reloaded.  Had the e-tailer shown a pop-up (or opened a new page) with text like, “We’ve been selling dog supplies online since 1994.  Over 45,000 customers from all over the US (and the world) have purchased on our site.  We look forward to adding you as a customer.  If you have any questions please use our contact form, live chat or call us at 980-939-5497.”  That would have been good drill-down context.

Using a short teaser like 45,000+ Customers Trust Us For Dog Supplies! draws attention but Methodical and Humanistic shoppers expect more.
